TO the Feathered Arrow blog. I'M Kari! A WEDDING PLANNER, PODCAST HOST, BIZ EDUCATOR, AND A LOVER OF COFFEE, ALL THINGS OUTDOORS + A SUCKER FOR A GOOD LOVE STORY.
Hello, friends! With warmer weather finally here, I wanted to share this summery wedding at the Environmental Nature Center from last August. This was a new venue for me so I was really excited when my couple chose this spot to say, “I do”. Finding a venue that centered around nature and preservation was so important for them because they’re passionate about eco-friendly causes. A wedding at the Environmental Nature Center in Newport Beach was a perfect fit, especially because the center is moving towards a zero waste policy for all visitors. It was a bit of challenge thinking through all items we were using on the day of but I also realized that there can be a lot of waste at weddings and this made me way more conscious about what we were using that day.
The ENC is a stunning 5-acre property surrounded by native California plants. However, because it’s not specifically designed to just host weddings, we brainstormed on ways to customize the space. For starters, ENC had a great space outdoors for the ceremony so we rented a stage and wrapped the stage in red fabric because we wanted the ceremony to bright and colorful. (For more red accent inspiration, check out this wedding). We covered a large wooden mandap with soft coral draping and bright flowers all over to complete the ceremony look. In Indian culture, weddings are usually about an hour long so we knew the space had to look amazing!
For the reception dinner, we hung draping and string lighting to give the building a more glamorous, custom feel for guests to dine. We basically transformed a classroom into a beautiful reception space. We also choose to tone down the colors a bit and go with a soft color palette. Similar to this wedding, we changed the color scheme to neutral tones with white linens and green + white floral centerpieces. Each place setting had a mint napkin, which went perfectly with the bride’s mint reception dress that she surprised guests with.
I’m so in love with the beautiful design for this wedding! No matter the space, there’s a way to transform it to reflect you as a couple and make it stunning!
