An Exciting Pre-wedding Celebration in Downtown LA
Happy New Year, friends! I’m so excited to jump back into the swing of things post the long holiday break, (did it feel long to anyone else?) and share some of the fun weddings I’ve been working on. Today, I’m really eager to share the first part of Lua + Chetan’s wedding, their bright and lively Sangeet at the Unique Space in DTLA.
I’m so thankful I’ve been able to share in some beautiful traditional Indian weddings as a planner. I’ve had the pleasure of planning this romantic wedding in Montecito, and this stunning wedding in San Pedro. I love how colorful and joyful each celebration is, and the multiple events that make the whole weekend feel like a huge party.
One of the pre-wedding celebrations for a traditional Indian wedding is the Sangeet. The Sangeet is similar to what some would call a rehearsal dinner, but it’s more focused on simply having fun and dancing. Some of Lua + Chetan’s friends and family even choreographed dances! There isn’t a formal structure or schedule, just a chance for everyone to get together and begin celebrating. The wedding day can be so hectic and fly by, I love that this gives the bride + groom a chance to spend even more time with their loved ones. Lua + Chetan catered in Mexican food and even surprised guests with a delicious churro truck! You guys, it was so good!
Mehndi Ceremony
One cherished wedding tradition in the Indian culture is the Mehndi ceremony where the bride is given a beautiful design of henna on her hands and feet for the wedding day. Lua + Chetan wanted to create a special place for this tradition at their Sangeet, so we used a part of the loft and decorated with colorful throw pillows and blankets for guests to sit on while getting “tattooed” by a henna artist. We also included baskets of colorful bangles and scarves for guests to take home.
Stay tuned next week to see the rest of Lua + Chetan’s wedding celebration! If you’re ready to start planning your wedding, contact me on my homepage here and let’s chat!
