TO the Feathered Arrow blog. I'M Kari! A WEDDING PLANNER, PODCAST HOST, BIZ EDUCATOR, AND A LOVER OF COFFEE, ALL THINGS OUTDOORS + A SUCKER FOR A GOOD LOVE STORY.
Unfortunately, like many couples these past two years, Tanya + Lucas’ original wedding plans had to be put on hold. However, they still wanted to have a celebration of their union! You may remember, we planned Tanya + Lucas’ intimate backyard wedding ceremony in 2020. I especially loved the soft iridescent shades of color added throughout their backyard wedding. (Since then, they’ve also added a little one to their family!) Once things finally opened up, they were able to move forward on their original wedding plans that included a church ceremony.
While we have planned weddings with multiple venues before, for the most part, a lot of venues are one stop shops. Therefore, when there are multiple locations involved, it always includes an additional element of organization and planning. Because having a church ceremony was extremely important to Tanya + Lucas, we added extra padding in the timeline to ensure guests were able to move from the church ceremony location to the reception space in downtown LA. (If you’re interested in learning about more of our favorite DTLA spots, check out this blog post!) It takes a lot of communication between vendors and guests, but I absolutely love how it gives couples the chance to change the ambience of their wedding!
Because it was important to honor the traditions of their religion but also have a good party, we wanted to find a way to make there ceremony + reception feel different. For the church wedding ceremony, we left the décor very minimal to allow the wooden pews and marble staircase of the chapel shine. Not to mention, most churches have stricter rules on decor. Later on, guests traveled to The Valentine for cocktail hour and reception. The Valentine is a huge venue that features an open-air element, unique hand painted murals and a lot of greenery! We used a color combo of pink, purple and white napkins that were reminiscent of their backyard wedding color palate but kept everything else minimal + bright! I love how these two venues were able to showcase the different sides of Tanya + Lucas as a couple and family.
Huge congrats to Tanya + Lucas and thank you for letting me plan two incredible weddings for you! If you’re thinking of planning a wedding with multiple venues (or scheduling your postponed wedding) contact me on my homepage here + let’s get started!
