TO the Feathered Arrow blog. I'M Kari! A WEDDING PLANNER, PODCAST HOST, BIZ EDUCATOR, AND A LOVER OF COFFEE, ALL THINGS OUTDOORS + A SUCKER FOR A GOOD LOVE STORY.
Thanks for joining me at The Local Table Podcast, friends! Today we are doing a deep dive into understanding our brand’s core values and mission with Crystal of Crystal Lily Photography. Crystal is a brand photographer + consultant with a unique mix of strategic, creative and process driven experience across multiple industries. She’s a self-described corporate-trained-creative-hippie who helps entrepreneurs strengthen their brands. In less than 3 years, Crystal has built a brand working with clients and locations across the country, including Los Angeles, New York and Miami. Crystal puts a strong focus on core values to create impactful photography, mentoring and consulting experiences for her clients. When she’s not working, Crystal enjoys spending time in nature, connecting with friends and trying to stay away from Oreos. (Something we can all related to!)
Crystal moved to LA in 2012 and wasn’t originally a photographer. When she first moved to LA, she worked as a coordinator at a music school in Hollywood. Then she was recruited into a corporate America type job but eventually couldn’t do it anymore. She had always loved photography and did photos for friends, and friends of friends. She started to build her portfolio by asking her friends to re-wear their wedding day attire so she could take photos of them in them. At the end of 2019, she moved from photographing couples to doing brand photography. Then she started getting questions about how she grew her business and began to start mentoring this year.
Crystal thinks one of the most important things you can do for your business is define your core values, and don’t be shy about them. When you go to Crystal’s website, it’s clear what she does, and who she does it for. Her mission is on her about page. Crystal encourages all entrepreneurs to incorporate your values and mission on your page. And it’s okay to be polarizing! If you’re being true to your core values, then you don’t want to work with those who don’t align or agree with them.
Crystal’s Core Values are:
Inclusivity is an extremely important topic for Crystal. Beyond a Brand Therapy Consulting package, Crystal also offers Inclusivity Consulting for brands. This is to be mindful and aware of if your brand is truly inclusive, and identifying your biases. Then she creates an action plan tailored to you with 3-5 commitments you can incorporate. Crystal’s advice to not be “performative” are:
