How to take time for yourself and set time away from work.

Being an entrepreneur is not for the faint of heart. It takes a lot of round the clock, hard work to ensure everything runs smoothly and we often forget to take time for ourselves, outside of our business! In honor of the long Memorial Day Weekend, here are 5 ways to relax as a business owner!

Here are your Top 5 Ways to Relax As Business Owner

Take a staycation

Arizona Opt Outside Hiking

As an entrepreneur, it can often feel like the idea of a vacation is impossible. If you’re unable to do a full vacation, try a stay-cation! A long weekend is the perfect time to explore a new part of your city or state! Going to a museum or new restaurant is a great way to find new inspiration for your business ventures. I find peace in being outdoors, so find what brings a sense of calmness over you, and do it as often as possible.

Clean your home or apartment

I know, sounds boring but here’s the catch: clean an area that has nothing to do with your workspace. It may seem like a long weekend is the perfect time to declutter your desk but, it will only remind you of work! Is there a neglected junk drawer or closet that is begging for attention? Take a note from Marie Kondo and you can find joy in a clean living space. Trust me, my life feels way more relaxing and at peace when things are clean in my home.

Volunteer

It’s no surprise that team Feathered Arrow is big on charity work. We make a donation to charities after every client that we work with and are big supporters of causes that are dear to us. Using the long weekend to help others in need can help put some common work stresses in perspective. This is also a great way to connect with friends you may not have been able to see because of your never ending to-do list. Gather a group of friends and volunteer for a cause near to your heart. There’s plenty we can do right in our communities and neighborhoods. Plus, doing good and hanging out with pals is a win-win!

Practice Self Care

Finding time for yourself while running your own business is one of the hardest things to do but one of the most crucial! I know I’m guilty for not taking time for myself or implementing self-care but the long weekend is a wonderful opportunity to treat yourself. Reward all the hard work and time you have put into your business by putting some time into yourself. Indulge in a spa day, or a new workout class! One suggestion is getting a massage or a trip to a chiropractor to realign after sitting at your desk for hours will do wonders for your mood. You don’t have to break the bank on this either. There are plenty of free activities to do that can serve as some great self-care. You can also download my guide to practicing and implementing self-care HERE!

Disconnect

Truthfully, this should be at the top of the list (but we get how hard this is for us business owners to actually do!) One of the best ways to relax is to step away from the distraction of your phone, email and computer. I’m a huge proponent of an automated out-of-office message, that way my clients and potential clients know and can respect my decision to be out of the office. A long weekend is a perfect time to read a book, go for a run or bike ride, or some other activity to refresh your creativity! Taking a break from social media and technology grounds us in the present moment and allows us to enjoy life in the present and not miss the moments we have right in front of us!

I hope these tips help inspire all you fellow entrepreneurs to relax on the long weekend! Happy Memorial Day friends!
